Der „Gute Nachbar“-Guide: So feiern Sie sicher und hinterlassen keine Spuren

New Year’s Eve is the night of lights and joy. But while we admire the sky, we should not forget those who live next to us. Responsible handling of fireworks not only ensures safety, but also fosters good relationships in the neighborhood.

Hier sind unsere Tipps, wie Sie wie ein Profi feiern und am nächsten Morgen mit einem sauberen Gewissen (und einer sauberen Straße) aufwachen.

1. Communication is everything

A quick word works wonders. If you know that your neighbors have small children or easily frightened pets, let them know briefly when you are planning your fireworks.

  • Pro tip: Strictly adhere to the legal times (in Germany usually from 6:00 PM on Dec 31st). A compact, planned spectacle at midnight is usually more pleasant for neighbors than hours of individual bangs.

2. Safety through preparation

A “good neighbor” is someone who doesn’t cause accidents.

  • Keep your distance: Pay attention to the wind direction and maintain the prescribed safety distance from buildings, cars, and trees.
  • Stability: Use a level surface for batteries and fountains. Nothing is more stressful for the neighborhood than a battery tipping over.

3. The “Fireworks Hangover”: Cleaning up properly

The biggest annoyance after New Year’s Eve is the trash on the sidewalks. Those who clean up show respect for the community.

  • Let them cool down: Extinguish burnt-out batteries and fountains with a bucket of water or let them cool for at least 15–30 minutes before moving them.
  • Disposal: Rocket sticks and cardboard remains belong in the general waste once they have completely cooled down.
  • The January 1st ritual: Take a quick sweep through the street with a broom on New Year’s morning. Your neighbors will thank you – and you’ll safeguard the reputation of all fireworks fans!
