There is currently no nationwide ban on consumer fireworks in Switzerland.

Switzerland is federally organized. This means that cantons and municipalities can impose additional restrictions.

Sale of fireworks

In contrast to Germany, there is no nationwide sales period for fireworks that is limited to a few days.

Typically, the sale takes place:

• before August 1

• before New Year’s Eve

However, dealers must comply with the legal provisions of the Swiss Explosives Act and the applicable storage and safety regulations.

When may fireworks be set off?

Fireworks are usually permitted in Switzerland on the following days:

• New Year’s Eve (December 31 / January 1)

Outside of these dates, authorization from the responsible municipality may be required.
